One can travel to Phi Phi Islands from Phuket by express boat or speedboat. We opt for the thrill of traveling by speedboat. Around 0800 in the morning, we were transferred from our hotel to Boat Lagoon Marina by an air conditioned vehicle.
The Boat Lagoon Marina was Phuket’s first marina complex. It has been fully operational since 1994. It is located on the east coast of the Phuket Island and is only a few miles from Phuket Town, on the main road to the airport. We reached the Boat Lagoon Marina at around 0930 in the morning. We were given a full set of snorkeling equipment each, which includes a diving mask, a pair of swimming fins and a snorkel.
The journey from Phuket to Phi Phi Islands takes approximately 50 minutes. There was a free flow of drinking water, soft drinks, fruit and snack inside the speedboat. For a moment, I realized that I was really on holiday. How nice it would be if I am being served like this every day in my life! For your information, my friend and I were the only 2 Asians on board!
Serious-look speedboat driver. Have to cause our life is in his hands!
Our first stop was Bamboo Island or Koh Phai in Thai language. We were given half an hour to enjoy swimming and relaxing on the beach. Bamboo Island is a small island to the north of Phi Phi Don. I have no idea why it is such named but I guess there should be lots of bamboo growing within the bushes that lined the beach. How could one resist the super soft sand and ultra clear water to not swim there? But unfortunately, rains started to fall and all of us cut short our stay in Bamboo Island and headed to our next destination.
How I wish I can stay longer there!
Next destination was Hin Klang. Hin Klang is a coral garden off the northeast coast of Phi Phi Don. It is midway between the north tip of Phi Phi Don and Bamboo Island. Being in the middle of the sea, the water is deeper. I put on a life jacket before I hopped into the water, only came to realize that we are the only 2 with the life jacket on! Those Europeans can really swim like fish! Once in the water, you can see numerous banana-yellow stripe Indo Pacific Sergeants (name of the fish) came darting around you like you were one of them. You might get some love bites in between with love marks all over your body after coming out from the water!
A piece of bread can attract lots of them
What made those people so exciting? Check it out on my next Phi Phi entry!
