One proof of why Guilin (桂林) is such a touristy city is the number of pedestrian street it has. I have no idea how many pedestrian street is there in Guilin, but I had visited 3 alone during my short stay there in August. One of such pedestrian streets is the Zhengyang Pedestrian Street (正阳步行街). Zhengyang Street was an old street. Its existence can be dated back to Han Dynasty (汉朝). It was Guilin’s commercial and political centre in the Qing Dynasty (汉朝). In 2001, Zhengyang Street had been transformed into a pedestrian street. Its entire length is 666 meters and around 13 meters wide, and has combined entertainment, recreation and shopping elements all on 1 street. There is a 17.5-meter tall clock tower in the center of the pedestrian street. Zhengyang Pedestrian Street is located in the center of Guilin city, neighboring the famous Li River (漓江), Jingjiang Princes City (靖江王城), Elephant Trunk Hill (象鼻山), Solitary Beauty Peak (独秀峰) and other scenic spots around Guilin.

In parallel with the Zhengyang Pedestrian Street is the Zhongshan Zhong Street (中山中路步行街). A busy street during daytime, Zhongshan Zhong Street transforms itself into a pedestrian night market when night falls. Half of the road is closed and dotted with great numbers of red tents every night. These stalls sell handicrafts, local products, local snacks and many more.

Another pedestrian street we had visited is the Xicheng Pedestrian Street (西城路步行街). We went to Xicheng Pedestrian Street during our last night in Guilin. To be honest, Xicheng Pedestrian Street has nothing much to offer. The street does have lots of restaurants though offering lots of nice foods, but I dared not to try after having just recovered from severe food poisoning in Xingping (兴坪).

I am not a shopping person, but I do like to do so when I am traveling, especially in these cozy little pedestrian streets! How about you?

Silk worm is to produce silk, not a food. But I read that silkworm pupae are eaten in some cultures
I always find that night markets.. or any markets are interesting especially the one which I never been too
The handicrafts and obviously, the local products always seem to amaze me
Name carved on the stone is pretty interesting :D
it’s used as a stamp, is it? or just a souvenir sort of thing?

The more places I travel to, the more I feel my country is inferior compared to others
