Stone Carvings at Kbal Spean

Besides Lingas and Yonis, Kbal Spean also boasts a series of stone carvings of various Hindu mythological motifs such as depictions of gods and animals. Among these are the impressive carvings of Vishnu on the rocks. In case if you do not know, Vishnu is the Supreme God in the Hinduism. At Kbal Spean, one can find carvings of Vishnu on the rocks by the upper cascade, on the rocks by the river and on the riverbed.

We also found carvings of numerous figures and animals on the rocks. Some of these figures we could not recognize. Some of them are animals such as crocodile, monkey and many more. I found myself being obsessed with stone carvings and bas relief carvings on the wall after the Cambodian trip. How I wish to see ancient Egyptian relief carvings in the near future! I shall plan my Egypt holidays in due course, perhaps at the end of this year.

There is a small but pretty waterfall at Kbal Spean. If only we had more time on that day, I would probably take a bath there! Tell you what; the water is so cool and refreshing at the waterfall.

Meditating under the waterfall?

We continued our journey down to the car parking area, where Xiao He must be anxiously waiting for us. There are a few lookout points along the hiking trail. It was at one of those lookout points where we actually realized how high we had climbed up the Kulen Hills. Bravo to myself and my other 2 traveling partners!
