To me, Sentosa Island is one of a few major attractions Singapore can offer. A Singapore trip is not deemed complete without stopover at Sentosa, agree? Let’s not talk about what I had done at Sentosa in this post. Instead, I shall introduce to you all the various ways of getting to this popular island resort just off the southern coast of Singapore.
To get into Sentosa Island, first and foremost one has to be on the main island of Singapore. You see, there is no airport on Sentosa. So taking the plane is not an option. From the main island of Singapore then, one can take Sentosa Express, cable car, private car, taxi or just walk across the bridge via the Sentosa Boardwalk.
One of the most convenient ways to get into Sentosa Island is by taking Sentosa Express monorail to the island
Just take the North East Line of the Singapore MRT to HarbourFront Station or take a public bus and alight along Telok Bungah Road. Then, make your way to Level 3 of Vivocity shopping mall. From there, one can find the Sentosa Express Monorail to the island. The round trip ticket costs Singapore Dollar 3.50, which also includes the island admission fare of Singapore Dollar 2. The ride takes less than 4 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a leisure walk down the Sentosa Boardwalk at the cost of Singapore Dollar 1 per entry per person.
If you decide to get into Sentosa Island by taxi or private car, you will need to pay Singapore Dollar 2 to 7 per vehicle to enter. The cost varies according to different periods of the day. Various parking lots can be found at designated car parks on the island. Parking rates vary too. Bear in mind that speed limit on Sentosa Island is 40 kilometers per hour. And motorcycles are not allowed on the island!
We chose to get into Sentosa Island by cable car
The Singapore Cable Car Station is located at Harbourfront Tower II. My friend drove and parked his car at Harbourfront Centre. From there, we made our way to the cable car station at Tower II. The cable car travels between Sentosa, Harbourfront and Mount Faber, and the return trip costs Singapore Dollar 26. To the uninitiated, Mount Faber is Singapore’s iconic hilltop destination. One can get panoramic view of Central Business District (CBD) on top of Mount Faber.
Why cable car, you may ask. Trust me; it is a whole new experience to get into Sentosa Island as you will be rewarded with the aerial view of the island including Resorts World Sentosa and Universal Studios, Singapore’s city skyline as well as the harbor. For your information, the operating hours of Singapore Cable Car is from 0845 till 2200 daily with the last boarding at 2145.
The cable car ride takes us to Imbiah Lookout. Stay tuned to read more on our adventure on Sentosa Island!
