Hollywood is the first themed zone we visited because it is located at the main entrance area of the Universal Studios Singapore. Click here for the layout map of the theme park, would ya? We walked past this zone fairly fast as it is occupied by mainly F&B outlets as well as retail outlets. Its only attraction, as I understood, is a Broadway style theatre showcasing live performance, which is of least attraction to us! One can see palm trees lining up on both sides of the street here.
We decided to tour the theme park in clockwise direction. Next was Madagascar, which is inspired by the DreamWorks Animations of the same name. The plot is about a lion (Alex), a zebra (Marty), a giraffe (Melman) and a hippopotamus (Gloria) escape from the Central Park Zoo and unfortunately shipwrecked on the island of Madagascar. We went for Madagascar: A Crate Adventure Ride, a water boat ride in a big displaced cargo ship. We had to queue up 1 hour for the ride!
Far Far Away is one of my favorite themed zone inside Universal Studios Singapore
Next to Madagascar is Far Far Away zone. The Far Far Away zone is based on the kingdom of the same name featuring in DreamWorks Animations’ Shrek. One can see the 40 meters tall Far Far Away Castle here. Far Far Away got to be one of my favorite themed zones inside Universal Studios Singapore. I particularly like Shrek 4D Adventure, a 3D stereoscopic show with added physical effects such as movable seats and mist sprayers. It was real fun to see Shrek, Donkey, Puss in Boots and Dragon in action to save Princess Fiona from Lord Farquaad! We also went for Enchanted Airways, a junior roller coaster whizzing about within the zone of Far Far Away.
I think we spent the longest time at Far Far Away! From there, we moved on to the Lost World. There are 2 sub themed zones here, namely Jurassic Park and Waterworld. There are so many adrenaline rush activities here. Jam was about to try his hands at Amber Rock Climb, but eventually decided not to go for it! I did go for Canopy Flyer, a suspended roller coaster. It was thrilling as the car you sit in is suspended on a track, giving you a different kind of experience! I missed out on Waterworld, which according to my mom, is a very nice live action performance on water.
We stepped into Ancient Egypt after the Lost World, and were immediately surrounded by rich Egyptian architecture. There are obelisks and pyramids everywhere in sight. We also saw a lot of ancient Egyptian statues of Anubis, a jackal headed god associated with mummification and the afterlife in ancient Egyptian religion. There are 2 rides here, namely Revenge of the Mummy and Treasure Hunters. I did not go for either ride.
I had queued up more than 2 hours for Transformers: The Ride
Next was Sci-Fi City. Sci-Fi City is a themed zone which mimics how cities are look like in the future. The main attractions here are Battlestar Galactica: Human vs. Cylon and Transformers: The Ride. Battlestar Galactica: Human vs. Cylon is the world’s tallest pair of dueling roller coasters. For your information, dueling roller coasters or a dual tracked roller coaster is a roller coaster which consists of 2 tracks. This is certainly not the one for faint hearted including Jam! So as soon as we came into Sci-Fi City, I headed straight to Transformers: The Ride! Being a die hard fan of Transformers since young age, this is my main purpose coming to Universal Studios Singapore and is the ride I shall not miss out! Even if I had to queue up for more than 2 hours!
The ride is based on the Transformers film franchise. It is a 3D ride in the total darkness in which guests are grouped and loaded into an Autobot named Evac carrying AllSpark and was chased after by Decepticons. It was a fun ride full of excitement! Before the ride, the queue is going through a pre-show where there are briefings on Decepticons have come to earth in search for the AllSpark, and how autobots led by Optimus Prime try to prevent that. After the ride, I had bought a Transformers shirt at the exit.
By the time we had done with the ride, it was nearly 1900. We were both exhausted and starved. We decided to bypass New York themed zone and left Universal Studios Singapore. It was a fun day nonetheless! If you have not been to any Universal Studios theme park before, Universal Studios Singapore would be a great choice considering its proximity to Malaysia, you know, just for the experience, at least once in a lifetime.
